How Often Should You Brush Your Teeth?

Having a healthy and good smile is everybody’s dream. It’s even when better when you have clean white teeth. However, we often want to look good but working towards it becomes a challenge. In this case, you must keep your teeth clean. It is general knowledge that everybody knows.

But how many times should you brush your teeth? Well, there is no scientific study that dictates the order or times you should brush your teeth.

Here is a guide into the number of times you should brush your teeth.

The Dentist’s Perspective

It is advisable to brush your teeth pretty much after every meal. This is the only way of ensuring that your teeth remain not only healthy but also clean. When you brush after every meal, you remove all the particles and sugars trapped between your teeth.

The particles and sugars between the teeth leave you very uncomfortable, especially after main courses. However, regular teeth brushing prevents dental diseases, including dental cavities, tooth decay, and dental carriers. These diseases, especially tooth decay, are caused by sugars that are corrosive to the enamel. They are treatable in the early stages but, if not attended to, can cost you your tooth.

But why go through all this yet you can brush and keep your teeth healthy? Just do your part!

The Moral Perspective

Have you ever gone to work, date, or any other place without brushing your teeth? Well, it sounds weird but trusts me, it happens. This feeling lowers your self-esteem and makes you very uncomfortable.

To avoid this, brush your teeth in the morning just after taking breakfast, and watch how it brightens your day. No matter how white your teeth look in the mirror, it is recommended to brush after breakfast and before retiring to bed. Regular brushing gives you a perfect and confident smile.

The dentist’s perspective is the best method when taking care of your teeth. However, it is impractical for the working class. How can you brush your teeth during lunch hour in the office or during long travels? It is possible and also impossible at the same time.

What if You Have a Toothache?

A toothache is the worst feeling ever; it is uncomfortable, painful, and makes you have a cold phobia. It is inevitable to see a dentist whenever you have a toothache because it often comes with unbearable pain leaving you restless and sleepless. Depending on the state of your tooth, the dentist will either remove it or do a root canal.

However, the home remedy for you if you have a toothache is brushing your teeth regularly. It can either be after every meal or whenever you are in pain. Consider using medicinal toothpaste while brushing; it should help lessen your pain. A toothache is preventable if only you do your part in keeping your teeth clean through regular brushing and maintaining healthy oral hygiene. It is the simplest and the surest way of having clean, healthy teeth.

What About Kids?

Cleanliness is ageless. You and your children should be clean at all times. Ideally, you should introduce your child to oral hygiene at an early age. Even if they have not grown the milk teeth, you can clean your kids’ teeth after every feeding using your hand and soft flannel. This keeps the child’s mouth clean and with good breath.

When the teeth start growing, it is advisable to start brushing them immediately it appears.

Here are Tips to Help You Keep Your Kid’s Teeth Healthy

Brush the teeth as soon as it breaks through using a very soft brush. The American Dental Association (ADA), in its guidelines, recommends brushing your infant’s teeth with a soft-bristled one. Doing this will protect the tooth cavities from injuries and, at the same time, makes the baby less irritable.

Use a tiny portion of baby fluoride toothpaste. The recommended amount is about the size of a rice grain. A small amount of toothpaste ensures that even if the baby ingests it, there will be no significant side effects. Remember, infants are very innocent and cannot differentiate something edible from something inedible.

However, at the age of 2-6 years, they can start brushing their teeth independently but with supervision. Kids of this age are very cheeky. Make sure that every time they brush their teeth, they spit the paste.

Conclusion

Brushing teeth should be a habit since it keeps you healthy. It not only gives you a fresh breath but also protects your teeth from tooth-related infections.
